Anderson in, Perez Out

The Atlanta Braves hope they have filled a hole with the weekend signing of free agent outfielder Garrett Anderson. The long times Angel will take a physical today or tomorrow before the one year deal is announced.

Odalis Perez signed a minor league deal with the Nationals two weeks ago, but was unhappy with the deal. So he held out. So the Nationals kicked him to the curb today.

The A's and Phillies are having discussions with free agent Nomar Garciaparra. The A's are the favorites since they're closer to Garciaparra's So Cal home. They would use as a backup at both corner infield positions.

Shortstop Orlando Cabrera is still looking for a new home, with the A's being one of the teams he's been in discussions with. So far, Cabrera's price is still too high- $5.5 million per season, down from the $9 million amount he originally wanted. Considering a player with Bobby Abreu's offensive rep had to settle for $5 million, Cabrera is going to have to come down a lot further.

Baseball's continuing investigation into the skimming of signing bonuses now includes Natioanls' GM Jim Bowden.
