Teixeira Powers Yankees to Win

Mark Teixeira has thoroughly enjoyed his time at the plate in this, the first spring training of his Yankees career. The good times continued to roll today for Teixeira, who singled in a run and hit the go-ahead 2-run home run in the Yankees 8-5 win over the Philadelphia Phillies in Tampa.

Teixeira is a notoriously slow starter and has the added pressure of not having Alex Rodriguez in the Yankees lineup. But he has showed no signs of mental strain this spring, going 24-54 (.444), including today's 3-3 game. He's also belted 3 home runs and driven in 11 runs in 20 games. You can also add 7 doubles and 7 walks to those gaudy stats.

Teixeira's hitting and solid pitching boosted the Yankees to a Grapefruit League best, 22-10-1 record. CC Sabathia wasn't at his best in his Florida finale today, but still came away with the win after allowing 2 earned runs in 3.2 innings pitched. He allowed 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5, finishing the spring with a 3-2 mark.

The Yankees bullpen, with the exception of Jason Stephens (3 ER in .2 IP) turned in another good outing. Hideki Matsui belted his 3rd home run of the exhibition season.
