Newsday's David Lennon is reporting that the Mets are in talks with Gary Sheffield and could sign him as early as today.
We guess that with Moises Alou gone, they need another creaky, older player.
Reportedly the Mets are in the pole position now with the Phillies and Reds still showing interest. There goes some of your playing time Dan Murphy.
