Short Stops - 4/18

Alfonso Soriano's hamstring strain may be a blessing in disguise for the Cubbies. Lou Piniella wanted Sori to move from CF to LF. Only Sori said no (sound familiar?). With the injury, the Cubs brought up their number 1 prospect, Felix Pie (pronounced pea-ay, not like a dessert) to play CF. The Cubs are hoping to keep him there and move Soriano back to LF where he played for the Nats.

David Wright was 1-5 last night to extend his hitting streak to 24 games. Moises Alou hit his 1st two Met HRs in the same game.

Jered Weaver and Freddy Garcia made their season debuts last night, with very different results. Weaver allowed 3 earned runs in 6 innings in his loss to Oakland, while Garcia went just 4 2-3 (95 pitches), in the Phillies 8-1 loss to the Mets. Garcia allowed 3 runs.

Weaver's older brother Jeff had a much worse night, though it lowered his ERA. After being bombed by the Red Sox in his 1st start of the year, Weaver got hammered to the tune of 7 runs in 6 innings against the Twins last night. His ERA is now 15.43 and he's probably wishing he had stayed in the National League.

Up and down night for Torii Hunter last night. Hit a grand slam and then had to leave early with a bruised shoulder. He's day-to-day.

Dice-K made his 3rd start of the season against the Blue Jays last night. Though he only allowed 3 hits and struck out 10 in 6 IP, he came out on the short end of a 2-1 decision.
