Erik Bedard 0-1, 11.57
vs.
Darrell Rasner (3-1, 4.43)
Happy Easter Sunday everyone; and for Jewish readers, you can finally stop eating all that matzoh soon. So, today we can only hope that Darrell Rasner can snap the Yankees ugly string created by its starting pitching. Hell, if he can go 6 innings, it'll almost seem like a perfect game.
The Yankees will be without Hideki Matsui today and for the series in Minnesota. Godzilla, who strained him hamstring yesterday, hopes to be back for next weekend's series in Oakland. Just another reason why the cold weather games are idiotic. Cleveland's Victor Martinez, DL'ed with a strained quad, would probably agree.
Passing the Hit Man
Belated congrats to Derek Jeter, who on Friday night passed Donnie Baseball for 6th place on the Yankees all-time hit list.
Down on the Farm
Eric Duncan is hoping his resurgence to prospect status has some legs this year. Yesterday he homered for the 2nd straight game as Scranton topped Norfolk 5-3. Russ Ohlendorf allowed 3 runs in 5 innings in his season debut.
Jose Tabata hit his 1st of the year for Tampa on Saturday. It was the Yankees lone run in a 3-1 loss to Lakeland. George Kontos turned in a good outing in his start, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits in 6 innings. He also struck out 5.
Grant Duff, who went 5-1, 1,14 in the Gulf Coast League in '06, built on that with 5 innings of 1 hit ball in Charleston's 2-1 win over Greenville.
Brett Gardner and Gabe Lopez drove in 3 runs each in Trenton's 8-5 win over Bowie.
