Hail to the King
The baseball world was tuned to Boston last night to see Dice-K's home debut, and his face-off with Ichiro. But The King, Felix Hernandez, stole the show. The 21-year old took a no-hitter in the 7th and recorded a complete game 1-hit shutout. The King has not allowed a run in 17 innings pitched and has struck out 18. Needless to say he's 2-0.
Dice-K did a good job, allowing 3 runs over 7 innings, and Ichiro went for the collar.
I never said that!
Reports came out yesterday, and were mentioned here, that Johann Santana had broken off all contract extension negotiations with the Twins and would not discuss anything with them until he hits the open market after the '08 season. Santana responded to the allegations by saying they were garbage. He would love to talk extension and has not set any deadline. King George is probably crying right now.
Beasts of the East
Anyone notice that the Braves are 7-1. John Schuerholz and Bobby Cox work more magic than David Copperfield.
Where's the love or ast least some runs
No one has pitched in tougher luck than Dan Haren this season. He'll be going up against the Yankees this weekend and can only hope the A's can put some runs on the board. Haren has a 0.69 ERA in 2 starts. And his record is 0-2. He allowed 4 unearned runs in a 4-0 loss to the M's and followed that up with 1 earned run in 7 innings against the Angels, only to lose 2-1.
Bye Bye I-man
Just to go back to this for one moment. MSNBC has dropped the simulcast of Don Imus's radio broadcast in the wake of his comments about the Rutger's women's basketball team. The reason for dropping him was officially because, "we will not stand for that kind of thing", when actually it was because the sponsors were dropping out. Imus could be gone from the FAN soon too.
And in case you missed read Jason Whitlock's column concerning the issue. He's spot on!
