Yankees vs. Rays - May 12

You shouldn't have to worry about a rain out in tonight's game unless there's a torrential downpour preventing the teams from getting to the ball park (it has happened before). One thing yesterday's rain out did was allow the Yankees to skip throwing Kei Igawa on his scheduled Wednesday start.

There's talk that the Yankees will bring back Ian Kennedy after just 2 starts (It will only be 2 if he can go tonight for Scranton. His scheduled start was rained out yesterday.). Darrell Rasner could go either Thursday to finish the Rays series or Friday against the Mets, depending on how things shake out during the week.

While we certainly don't want to see Igawa ever again in a Yankees uniform, we think it's a mistake to bring Kennedy back after only a couple of starts. Struggling pitchers don't turn things around overnight and there's a big difference between facing Triple-A hitters and the Mets. Based on his words when he left town, Kennedy also sounds like he needs an attitude adjustment.

A-Rod took 60 swings on Sunday, plus 38 grounders, and will go for a much anticipated MRI. Based on the results he could be activated on Thursday, though you can bet the Yankees will err on the side of caution.

Yesterday's rain out will be made up on either July 24 or September 1. Yankees player rep Mike Mussina is handling the recommendation to MLB, which will make the final decision. The Yankees will play on Labor Day as long as its a day game since they have to go on the road for a series starting Tuesday.

Pitching Probables for the Rays series:

Monday: Andy Pettitte (3-3, 3.77) vs. Matt Garza (1-1, 4.91)
Tuesday: Chien-Ming Wang (6-1, 3.12) vs. Edwin Jackson (2-3, 4.04)
Wednesday: Mike Mussina (5-3, 4.36) vs. James Shields (4-2, 3.14)
Thursday: TBD vs. Scott Kazmir (1-1, 2.70)

This is the only uniform we ever want to see Igawa in again.
