Minor League Recap - 5/20

The Scranton Yankees have to be thankful that Alan Horne is about set to return from the disabled list. Heath Phillips had been signed to compete for the lefty specialist role with the big club, but he's been pressed into the Triple-A starting rotation due to injuries and promotions to the big league level. The left-hander gave up 4 runs in 3 innings yesterday as Scranton lost to the Pawtucket Red Sox 5-3. The Yankees were a running machine in the game, swiping 6 bases, 3 of them by Justin Christian.

The Vero Beach Devil Rays outscored the Tampa Yankees 6-5 on Monday. Ryan Pope was roughed up for 5 runs, 3 of them earned, in 6 innings. Kevin Whelan allowed a run in his 2 innings of work. Josue Calzado and James Cooper each homered for the Yankees.

The Charleston RiverDogs got steamrolled 9-3 by the 1st place Asheville Tourists. The Tourists broke open a 3-2 game with a 6-run 9th inning. Jason Stephens gave the Dogs a quality start with 3 runs allowed in 6.1 innings.
