Yankees vs. Mariners - May 24

What a perfect day for a baseball game. Sunny, nice breeze, not too hot, and the game isn't on Fox. Mike Mussina will be going on 3 day's rest due to Chien-Ming Wang's calf strain. The Wanger is still scheduled to start Sunday's game. George King of the NY Post reported this morning that the Yankees plan to have Joba Chamberlain throw 2-3 innings today in his second transition game. King also reports that Jorge Posada may be headed to Tampa for some extended spring training work.

Carlos Silva was pushed up a day as well for the Mariners due to Felix Hernandez's calf strain. The King will miss the entire series as Jarrod Washburn goes on Sunday.

Mussina beat the Mariners 6-1 on May 5 after allowing 1 run in 6 innings. He had his 5-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday, when some poor play and poor pitching lead to a 1st inning exit. He's 18-5 in 26 career starts, plus a relief appearance, against the Mariners.

The Yankees belted Silva around for 8 runs in 3 innings on May 4. The Yankees won it 8-2 behind home runs by Melky Cabrera and Robinson Cano, and a 4-hit night by Derek Jeter.
Silva is 1-3, 9.62 in 5 career starts against the Yankees, though his last outing skewed his ERA quite a bit. Bobby Abreu (8-10) and Derek Jeter (7-11) are 15-21 (.710) combined against the right-hander. Cano is 3-9 with all 3 hits being home runs.
