The Trenton Thunder got a great pitching effort from Al Aceves, making his first start since his promotion from Tampa, and Mark Melancon in the Thunder's 3-0 win over the Reading Phillies in 10 innings. Aceves gave up 5 hits over 7 innings, striking out 7. Melancon then came on and threw 3 hitless innings and picked up the win after the Thunder broke the scoreless tie in the 10th. Ramiro Pena, Colin Curtis, and Edwar Gonzalez each drove in a run.
Thunder beat writer Mike Ashmore spoke with pitching coach Scott Aldred about prospect Mike Gardner.
Tampa got an excellent performance by Ivan Nova, who limited the Vero Beach Devil Rays to 2 hits over 8 innings in the Yankees 1-0 win. Jose Valdez pitched the 9th to earn his 3rd save. Jose Gil drove in the game's lone run in the 6th inning.
The Charleston RiverDogs got a much needed win, topping the Greenville Drive 7-1 in the 1st of a 3-game series. Zach McAllister (6-2, 3.05) was dynamite, allowing 6 hits in 8 innings while striking out 6. Walt Ibarra had a couple of hits and 3 RBI
