Minor League Recap - 5/7

We've already told you about Ian Kennedy's night in Scranton, but the rest of the organization came up winners last night too.

Dan McCutchen (4-2) bounced back from a rough outing to dominate the Erie SeaWolves on 4 hits over 7 innings. Chris Malec belted a 2-run home run, his 3rd of the season, and Cody Ehlers drove in his team leading 21st RBI (note: Matt Carson had 26 RBI before his promotion to Triple-A).

Tampa won in its final at-bat, 5-4 over Jupiter, to complete a 4-game sweep of the Hammerheads and extended their overall winning streak to 6 games in the process. Kyle Anson singled with 2-outs and the bases loaded to drive in the game winner. Some good news passed along from Nardi Contreras to Chad Jennings- Eric Hacker left Monday night's game with a blister.

The Charleston RiverDogs (hey, we're finally spelling it as one word) completed a 4-game sweep of the Hickory Crawdads with a 7-4 win last night. Wady Rufino and Abe Almonte each hit 3-run home runs and Jon Ortiz picked up his 10th save of the season.

Here are some more updates from Nardi Contreras via Chad Jennings:

Humberto Sanchez- Oh the promise this guy has that has been derailed time and time again from injury. Acquired in the Gary Sheffield deal, as if we had to tell you that.
NC: Sanchez is progressing well, but has not thrown 45 pitches yet. He has to reach that number if he is to face hitters. The Yankees use 35 as a benchmark for relievers, which is how Sanchez may still be used this year.

Jeff Karstens- Been on the DL since the end of spring training. He could still be the long man/5th starter for the Yankees.
NC: Has been throwing batting practice and could pitch in a game as early as next week.

Zach McAllister - Conteras is very high on McAllister and has been impressed with his pitching this season.

Mark Melancon and J.B. Cox - Contereras is very happy with the progress both are making this season.

Contreras will be going to see the Thunder today and will be evaluating Dan McCutchen and Chase Wright; He was non-committal when asked by Jennings if either or both might move up to Triple-A.
