Wilson Betemit could be activated as early as today after going 5-13 in a rehab stint at Scranton. He was held of the Scranton lineup last night leading to speculation he was headed back to the big club. Alberto Gonzalez would likely take the roster hit to make room for Betemit, who could take at-bats away from Jason Giambi if the 1st Baseman continues to struggle.
Ian Kennedy makes his first start for Scranton this evening. Brian Cashman quickly pointed out that Hughes and Kennedy's status will not effect Joba Chamberlain's role.
Bob Raissman of the NY Daily News talks about the recent flack Joe Girardi took from the media regarding Phil Hughes' status. Girardi discussed the incident on his self-titled YES show with Michael Kay. Kay also managed to take a shot at Joe Torre.
"You're following a guy (Torre) who was a master at saying nothing, but the media feels they got something out of it."Raissman points out that, as usual, Kay is correct. Torre was always straightforward about a player's status.
Has it not occurred to Hank Steinbrenner, that just like his Dad, he's embarrassing the organization when he publicly states that the members of the front office is not on the same page. The "it's not my fault" stance never looks good.
