Congrats to a Class Act

The Washington Capitals have announced that one of the greatest players in franchise history, and one of our all-time favorite players when he was a member of the New York Rangers, Mike Gartner, will have his number 11 retired in a ceremony on December 28.

Gartner tallied 708 career goals, sixth best in NHL history, and spent 10 years with the Caps. He was screwed out of a Stanley Cup when the Rangers dealt him, because then coach Mike Keenan didn't like him, at the 1994 trade deadline for Glen Anderson. Anderson had one big playoff goal, but his biggest contribution was salmon sandwiches for his teammates.

The honor in Washington is long overdue for a player who was inducted into the NHL Hall of Fame in 2001.

Congratulations to a good guy, Mike Gartner!
