Minor Leage Recap - 6/6

Scranton lost a wild one to the Norfork Tide, 13-12, last night at PNC Field. Steven White and Heath Phillips combined to give up 11 runs in 4.2 innings, but the Yankees offense was just as potent as the Tides.

Norfolk, which had 20 hits, scored the game winner in the 8th inning against J.B. Cox. Four different Yankees drove in 2 runs each lead by Matt Carson who had 3 hits, including a home run, and scored 3 times. The Yankees also stole 7 bases in 7 attempts. Brett Gardner, Cody Ransom, and Bernie Castro swiped 2 each, and Alberto Gonzalez also added one.

While Scranton was in a scoringfest, the Trenton Thunder were locked up in a pitcher's duel with the Reading Phillies. Starter Jason Jones had allowed a run on 5 hits over 6 innings, but the Thunder couldn't muster a run. That was until the 8th when, excuse us, lightning struck.

Reegie Corona drew a 1-out walk and scored on Ramiro Pena's double to tie the game. Pena moved to 3rd on a wild pitch and scored the go-ahead run on Austin Jackson's sacrifice fly. Eric Wordekemper went 3 innings to earn the win while Anthony Claggett picked up his 3rd save with a scoreless 9th. In addition to his RBI, Jackson also had a pair of stolen bases, giving him 10 on the season.

The Tampa Yankees drubbed the Palm Beach Cardinals 10-0. Andres Perez had 2 home runs in his 4 hits and Seth Fortenberry added 4 hits of his own and a home run. The 20 hits back the 7 scoreless innings thrown by Zack McAllister.

Lance Pendleton and 3 relieveres combined on a 4-hit shutout in the Charleston RiverDogs 2-0 win over the Savannah Sand Gnats. Brandon Laird drove in both runs with one of his two doubles. Jon Ortiz closed the game out with his 18th save.
