The Yankees play their second series of the season already with the Tampa Bay Rays starting tonight. It's a brief one- 2 games. Derek Jeter will be back in the lineup for the first time in a week and Robinson Cano is getting a much needed day off. Alberto Gonzalez gets his first start at 2nd Base.
With Cano sitting, Alex Rodriguez is the only Yankee to have started every game. And that will changed when Mrs. A-Rod gives birth this week.
Here is tonight's lineups:
YANKEES
Damon LF
Jeter SS
Abreu RF
Rodriguez 3B
Matsui DH
Ensberg 1B
Cabrera CF
Moeller C
Gonzalez 2B
Kennedy RHP
With Jason Giambi hitting a pair of home runs over the weekend we're a little surprised to see him sitting tonight. Perhaps the Yankees want to get Morgan Ensberg some swings for when A-Rod goes off on his Daddy duty.
The Yankees desperately need a good outing from IPK (0-1, 13.50) tonight. The Rays manhandled him in his only other start this season and just like Phil Hughes last night, he didn't have command of his fastball in that one.
Andy Sonnanstine (1-1, 6.00) will face Kennedy just as he did in that Rays 13-4 drubbing back on April 4. Sonnanstine allowed 4 runs in 6 innings. Coincidentally that was also the only game that Jonathan Albaladejo, recalled today, pitched in before being demoted.
