Purported Scheme Goes Good

You know all about the David Ortiz jersey buried in the cement of the new Yankee Stadium by a Red Sox fan and its subsequent unearthing by construction officials. Well something silly has become something great.

The jersey is being auctioned off on eBay,with proceeds are going to the Jimmy Fund, which supports the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. That's 8-year old patient Ryan Reardon holding the jersey in the picture. Kids with cancer, does anything tear your heart out more?

With 33 minutes left in the auction, the current bid is $130,100!!!

The winner of the jersey will also get a new Ortiz road jersey, a Yankees Universe t-shirt, and will get to attend a game at Fenway Park this season.

Former Sox 2nd Baseman and current Chairman of the Jimmy Fund, Mike Andrews is ecstatic at the reaction of fans.

(the bidding is) "absolutely phenomenal."

"It speaks volumes about the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox and their fans' passions for their teams and their commitment to furthering cancer care and research," he said. "When it comes to cancer, we're all on the same team."

Here, here!
