The Scranton Yankees split a pair with the Durham Bulls this weekend, but took 2 of the 3 games in the series. On Saturday Scranton used a 21 hit attack to drub Durham 16-6. Shelley Duncan homered for the 3rd straight game. Jason Lane (5th), Juan Miranda (1st), and Nick Green (2nd) hit long balls as well. Jeff Marquez picked up the victory.
Kei Igawa gave up 2 runs in the 5th on Sunday and they stood up in the Bulls 2-0 win. The Yankees had just 2 hits in the game. Chris Britton and Jon Albaladejo combined for 2.1 innings of relief and have yet to allow an earned run this season.
The Trenton Thunder gained a split of their 4 game series with the Harrisburg Senators by sweeping a weekend pair. Jason Jones gave up 3 hits over 7 innings as the Thunder won 4-0 on Saturday. Kevin Russo hit his first home run of the season. Austin Jackson went 3-4 and swiped a pair of bases.
Marcos Vechionacci and Russo drove in 3 runs each on Sunday in Trenton's 8-4 win. Chase Wright allowed 1 run in 6 innings for the win. Jackson had 2 hits and is hitting .417 (10-24) over his last six games.
Tampa was drubbed by the Sarasota Reds on Saturday, 10-0. Kyle Anson was 3-3 and is hitting .348. J.B. Cox made his first appearance of the season, allowing a run on two hits in one inning of work.
The Yankees bounced back nicely on Sunday with a 1-0 win. Josue Calzado drove in the game's only run with an 8th inning single. Eric Hacker, who pitched 7 innings of no-hit ball his last time out, limited Sarasota to just 2 hits over 7 innings this time out. Mark Melancon tossed two scoreless innings for the win.
The Charleston River Dogs are the hottest team in the system. They've won 6 straight and are 9-1 overall. They completed a 3-game sweep of the Rome Braves with 4-3 and 5-4 wins this weekend (Friday's game was also a 1-run affair).
Jesus Montero doubled in the game winner in the 11th on Saturday to make a winner of Chase Vacek. Zach McAllister gave the Dogs a solid 7 innings in his start and Jason Stephens followed with a dynamite 3 innings of work, including 5 strikeouts.
Wady Rufino singled in the go-ahead run in the 6th and later homered as the Dogs completed the sweep on Sunday. Dellin Bettances allowed 2 runs and struck out 7 in 5 innings of work. Lance Pendleton threw 3 innings of 1-hit ball, striking out 4, to earn the win.
