Around the Horn - 4/14

We apologize for the lack of "Around the Horn" on Sunday, but we're back with it today.

The Brewers continued their home run onslaught on the Mets. After pounding 3 of them off of Johan Santana on Saturday, the Brew Crew continued to look like their '82 namesakes with two more in yesterday's 9-7 win. The most surprising of the Brewers hitters? Gabe Kapler, hands down. What has suddenly gotten into this guy who was all potential and muscle, and no hit? After yesterday's 3-4, 3 RBI, 3 run scored game, Kapler was hitting .423-4-11 with 8 runs scored in only 26 at-bats. His home runs are already more than his 2005 and 2006 seasons combined.

Chase Utley's throwing error in the 10th allowed the Cubs to escape with a 6-5 win over the Phillies. The Cubs had blown a 4-2 lead.

Clint Barmes drove in 4 runs and Matt Holliday and Garret Atkins added 3 each in the Rockies 13-5 thrashing of the Diamondbacks. The win allowed the Rockies to salvage the final game of the 3-game series. The red hot Justin Upton was held to a 1-4 day.

The Padres took 2 of 3 from the Dodgers by grabbing a 1-0 win on Sunday. Paul McaNulty's 4th inning sac fly stood up for Greg Maddux, who won his 349th career game.

J.R. Towles and Michael Bourn homered in the Astros 5-1 over the Marlins. Wandy Rodriguez won his first game of the year as the Astros took 2 of 3. Towles had to leave the game in the 8th inning after being hit on the hand by a Kevin Gregg pitch. X-Rays were negative, but he'll be re-evaluated today.

John Bowker homered and drove in 4 runs in the Giants 7-4 win over the Cardinals. Tim Lincecum struck out 11 in 6 innings as he improved to 2-0.

The Nationals snapped their 9 game losing streak with a 5-4 win over the Braves. 2 of the 4 Nats wins this season have come against Atlanta. Tim Redding earned his 2nd win of the year.

The Pirates pounded the Reds and phenom Johnny Cueto, 9-1. The Pirates hit 3 home runs as Cueto gave up 5 runs in 6 innings.

Joe Inglett's sac fly in the 10th brough home the winning run in the Blue Jays 5-4 victory over the Rangers. B.J. Ryan in his first game back picked up his first save.

The Indians salvaged the finale of their 3 game set with the A's with a 7-1 win. Grady Sizemore knocked in 3 runs.

B.J. Upton drove in 3 runs in the Rays 6-2 win over the Orioles. 6'9" prospect Jeff Niemann picked up his first major league win.

The White Sox continued the Tiger woes with an 11-0 drubbing. Joe Crede and Paul Konerko each hit grand slams as the Tigers were shutout for the 4th time this year. It was Crede's second grand slam of 2008.

The Royals beat the Twins 5-1 behind Brian Bannister's complete game 3-hitter. His ERA now stands at 0.86.

Jeff Mathis had 3 hits, including a home run in the Angels 10-5 whomping of the Mariners. Howie Kendrick, recovered from a hand injury, left the game with a hammy problem. He's hitting .500.
