Major League Ramblings - Feb 7 Addition

With not much baseball going on until the start of spring training, and even some dead time until the regular season starts, we thought we would talk a little more sports outside of the world of the 4-seam fastball.

He may have been fed the line, but Eli Manning had the quote of the day when he appeared on David Letterman yesterday. When Letterman asked him what he thought of Bill Belichick leaving the field with 1 second left, Eli replied, "Maybe he was trying to beat traffic.".

A high school football recruit in Nevada tried to pull off a major scam on National Signing Day. Kevin Hart is an offensive lineman in more than one sense now after holding a press conference to talk about his recruitment by the U of California, and his subsequent commitment to the school. Have you already guessed it? Cal never heard of the kid, who embarrassingly apologized.

Can someone explain to us why a Rangers team with Jagr, Shanahan, Drury, Gomez, Straka, and Prucha can't score more? Look for the Broadway Blueshirts to pick up a sniper at the trade deadline. Where have you gone Mike Gartner?

The Suns acquisition of Shaq really seems like a panicky response to the Lakers' deal for Pau Gasol. The 36-yr old behemoth isn't what he once was. While Shawn Marion was unhappy with his role, you'd think Suns rookie GM Steve Kerr could have made a better deal. Even with salary restrictions, who would have thought Shaq would play with at least 4 teams during his career.

The Giants are reportedly going to attempt to keep Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo by offering him a big raise and title of assistant head coach.

Congrats to the Rutgers women bball team on their upset of #1 UCONN. Don Imus had no comment.
