Santana says Yankees or Red Sox

The Providence Journal is reporting this morning that in addition to demanding a trade prior to the season, Johan Santana has told the Twins he will only accept a deal to the Yankees or Red Sox.

Whether or not its true, just the fact that its been put out there limits GM Terry Ryan'sBill Smith's ability to make a deal. Source

Yesterday we reported that the Yankees had given the Twins a Monday deadline to respond to their offer of Phil Hughes, Melky Cabrera, and a prospect. Last night Hank Steinbrenner pounded that sentiment home by stating the Yankees would pull their offer off the table after today.

"Santana is the only player in the majors that I would trade these players for," Steinbrenner told The (New York) Post. "I've given (the Twins) to (today) to make their decision.

"We've made them a good offer, it's up to them to take it or leave it. I don't low-ball and I don't high-ball. This is a good offer. I feel good about our chances."

We already know by now that just because Hank says something, it doesn't mean he can't change his mind (see Alex Rodriguez). But we can't imagine its healthy to go public with your discussions with another team.
