Prospects Pass Like Ships in the Night

Whether it's strictly on merit or to showcase them, Yankees pitching prospects Ian Kennedy and Joba Chamberlain are headed to their 3rd level this season. The 2 started the year at Tampa, were promoted to Trenton, and now have been boosted up to Triple-A Scranton. Both names have been mentioned, by other teams, in trade talks, and there is speculation that the Yankees may make one more promotion and put Chamberlain in their bullpen.

To make room on the Scranton roster, Chase Wright, Tyler Clippard, as well as Steven Jackson were send down to Trenton. Both Wright and Clippard pitched at the major league level this year.

The Yankees also moved Kevin Whelan back from Tampa to Trenton. Whelan was sent down to Tampa to work as a starter in an effort to stretch out his workload. He record a 1.93 ERA in 7 starts, which included a combined no-hitter. Brett Smith was sent down to Tampa to make room for Whelan and Jackson.
