Not a good day for CC Sabathia in his start against the Tigers. After a scoreless first, the big left-hander was tagged for 5 runs in the second inning, leaving with 2 outs. Among the hits was a 2-run home run off the bat of Gary Sheffield. The Tigers lead it 7-4 in the 8th.
The Yanks had built a 4-0 lead with a pair of runs in each of the first two innings off of a wild Justin Verlander. The Tigers extended their lead with a pair of solo home runs, including Sheffield's second blast of the game. That home run came off of Al Aceves, who also gave up a long ball to Wil Ramirez.
The Yankees RBI are from Mark Teixeira, Jorge Posada, who DH'ed, and Nick Swisher. Melky Cabrera fell further behind Brett Gardner in the center field battle, going 0-3 before leaving the game. He's now hitting .238 for the spring.
