Yankees Homer Field Advantage

For the first time in over a month the Yankees hit 3 home runs to catapult the team to a 12-4 victory last night over the Minnesota Twins. The win was the Yankees fourth straight and their 8th straight at Yankee Stadium. Alex Rodriguez, Robinson Cano, and Derek Jeter each went deep as the Yankees banged out 16 hits to take the rare laugher.

Sidney Ponson only lasted 5.2 innings, but the Yankees continued to produce runs when he's on the mound. A-Rod had given him a quick 2-0 lead in the 1st inning with his 21st home run of the season and career number 539, but the Twins got it right back against Ponson in the 2nd. Nick Blackburn and the Twins bullpen couldn't hold things in check though, and the Yankees started to break things open in their half of the 2nd inning.

Consecutive one out singles by Melky Cabrera, Jose Molina, and Brett Gardner, the much maligned 7-9 hitters, loaded the bases. Cabrera scored when 2nd baseman Alexi Casilla's throw, off a Johnny Damon grounder, bounced in front of catcher Joe Mauer for an error. Jeter followed with an RBI single and Gardner came home on Bobby Abreu's ground out for a 5-2 lead. A-Rod's single brought home the final run of the inning and chased Blackburn from the game. The Twins bullpen would take a beating though. Cano led off the 3rd with his 8th home run of the season and Damon later added a bloop RBI double for an 8-2 Yankees lead.

With the score 8-3 in the 6th and two men aboard, Joe Girardi sent for Edwar Ramirez, who struck out Casilla for the inning's final out. Any hope of a Twins comeback would end in the bottom of the frame.

Jeter started the inning with a solo home run to right off of Boof Bonser. Abreu followed with a single, which knocked Bonser from the game. Craig Breslow made a doubly bad pitch, walking A-Rod and throwing a wild pitch, on ball four, that sent Abreu to 3rd base. Breslow then wild pitched Abreu home for a 10-3 Yankees lead. He struck out Jason Giambi, but Cano lined a single to center to plate A-Rod and the laugher was on.

News and Notes

Dave Robertson continued to impress with another 1-2-3 inning, including a strikeout.

Robinson Cano is 10-19 since the All-Star break.

Hideki Matsui will give his knee one more chance. If it blows up again, he'll have season ending surgery.

Why must Joe Girardi constantly lie/twist the truth about injuries. He was saying Jorge Posada isn't in pain at the same time Posada was saying his shoulder has hurt him all year.
