The Daily Yankeeland

We mentioned earlier that Andy Pettitte has until Wednesday to decide whether he wants to exercise his option for 2008. But Hank Steinbrenner wants Pettitte to take as much time as he needs. "As far as I’m concerned, he can take longer than that to decide, as far as coming back to the Yankees," Hank Steinbrenner said. "He can take the time he wants, because we really want him back." A-Rod has supposedly told people that the Red Sox are #1 on his list of teams to play for because he sees a chance to win multiple championship. Yeah, he said the same thing about the Yankees in 2004. Now that Boston has no problem spending money, Mike Lowell at 3B and A-Rod at shortstop isn't out of the question. Source

We know that Mariano Rivera has already met with the Yankees concerning a new deal. Now word comes from GM Brian Cashman that he has "reached out" to Jorge Posada, and Posada indicated he would like to remain a Yankee. Hopefully the Yankees can get something done before Posada hits the open market.

Another possible 3rd Base option for the Yankees could be as a result of another shortstop switch. The Orioles look like they will try very hard to finally deal Miguel Tejada this winter. Tejada, though rumored to be steroid user, hasn't experienced the body breakdown that other accused users have. He had a consecutive games streak of 1,152 end this season when he was hit by a pitch and broke a bone in his forearm.

One free agent the Yankees will surely be taking a look at is the Cubbies' Kerry Wood. Though oft injured, his fastball is reportedly back up to 98 mph. The Yankees would like to get a solid 8th inning man so they're not tempted to keep Joba Chamberlain in a set up role.
