The Daily Yankeeland

Mariano Rivera is still expected to accept the Yankees deal this week, but some reports that it was already official, were a bit premature. Word now is that Mo may look for an optional 4th year that would kick in based on reaching goals, such as number of appearances and saves.

Alex Rodriguez, who will get the AL MVP at 2:00 EST today, says his negotiations with the Yankees are "in the fifth inning". A deal may not be sewn up until next week, but nothing should deter it at this point. Source

The Yankees are closely monitoring the Twins talks with Johann Santana. Over the weekend, the Twins made a 5 year, $93 million offer to their ace lefty. While a nice deal, it's nowhere near what Santana could command on the open market. Once Santana turns it down, one would think he'll be actively shopped. Source

Jeff Karstens had an up and down, injury filled year, but he's a champion now. Karstens won 2 games in Team USA's run to the World Cup championship. It's the first US cup win since 1974. Read more
