Fall Ball Update

Here is the latest on the Yankees prospects playing in Arizona and Hawaii.

Arizona

Brett Gardner
Off to a torrid start, 10-25 (.400); has stolen 3 bases in as many attempts, and has 4 runs scored. Sporting a .963 OPS.

Juan Miranda
After hitting 16 HRs in the regular season, has added 2 in the 1st 6 AFL games. Is hitting .304 with a 1.016 OPS.

Reggie Corona
Off to a bad start, hitting just .222 (4-18). Does have a HR, double, and 5 RBI. Had a mediocre year in the minors, but is still just 20 yrs old.

Steven Jackson
Has made 2 relief appearances, allowing 5 runs (3 earned) in 4 innings pitched. League is hitting .294 with 2 home runs off him. He allowed 12 home runs in 90 innings between Trenton and Scranton, so this seems to be a bad trend.

Kevin Whelan
After throwing a scoreless inning in his 1st appearance, allowed a pair of runs in 1 inning his next time out. Opponents only hit .159 against him at Tampa and Trenton.

Eric Wordekemper

Bounced back from a horrendous inning his 1st time out to throw a scoreless frame yesterday. This guy has put together amazing back-to-back seasons. It will be interesting to see if translates to the higher minors and the big club.

Steven White
Has gotten hammered to the tune of 6 runs, 5 hits, 2 walks, and an HR in just 3 innings pitched.

Hawaii

George Kontos
Has been dominant in his last 2 starts, striking out 16 in just 10 innings pitched. Yesterday he k'ed 11 in 5 innings as the Honolulu Sharks posted a shutout. Overall, Kontos is now 2-2, 3.00.

Brad Suttle
Would like a do over. Is just 3-35 without an RBI. He's also struck out 12 times in 35 at-bats.

Austin Jackson
Hitting .269 with 10 RBI in 52 at-bats. Has yet to take one deep. Has 4 doubles, 2 triples, and has stolen 7 bases in as many attempts. Has 10 walks, but has also k'ed 16 times.
