WP - Danks (9-7) LP - Burnett (10-5)
The Yankees have had some very big moments this season, but when things have gone bad, boy have they gone bad. Such was the case again yesterday when A.J. Burnett got lit up for six runs in the 2nd inning and the Yankees lost to the Chicago White Sox 14-4. As good as the Yankees were on their recent homestand, winning 9 of 10, that’s how bad they’ve looked in losing three straight in Chicago.
Burnett has been as a good an any pitcher in baseball over the last two months, but yesterday afternoon he was completely lacking command. In fact, he twice walked the number 9 hitter with the bases loaded to force in a run. The bullpen was no better either, particularly Phil Coke. The left-hander allowed 6 runs while retiring just one batter.
