According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (tip of the hat to mlbtraderumors.com), the Pirates have acquired pitcher Eric Hacker from the Yankees. Hacker was designated for assignment last week when the Yankees recalled Brett Tomko.
Hacker had a break out season last year with Tampa and Trenton, but had struggled this season at the Double-A and Triple-A levels.
UPDATE - 3:25 PM
According to the MLB Network, the Yankees acquired Romulo Sanchez for Hacker. Sanchez was originally signed as a free agent by the Dodgers in 2002. The Pirates picked Sanchez up in 2004 when the Dodgers released him. He's appeared in 26 big league games in 2007-2008.
At 6'5", 260 lb and no strikeout ability, he looks like a Chris Britton redux.
