Yankees vs. Rangers Preview

Yankees are coming off a split of a 4 game series with the Mariners, while the Rangers just swept a 3 game series from the Blue Jays. The Yankees took all 3 games of a series with the Rangers last week in Arlington, including both ends of a doubleheader on Thursday.

Pitching Matchups

Tonight
- Mike Wood vs. Andy Pettitte; this is a rematch up the 1st game of last week's doubleheader. Wood kept the Yankees off-balance with his off-speed stuff. Andy Pettitte left with a lead, and for the 3rd time this season, the Yankee's bullpen couldn't hold it. Hideki Matsui then drove in the game winner in the 8th.

Wednesday - Robinson Tejeda vs. Mike Mussina; another rematch, this time from the nightcap of the twinbill. Tejada gave the Rangers a quality start, allowing 3 runs in 6 1-3 innings, but Mussina was on a roll that night, breezing through 5 innings en route to a 5-2 win.

Thursday - Brandon McCarthy vs. Chien-Ming Wang; McCarthy came over from the White Sox during the off-season and was supposed to give the starting rotation a big boost. But so far he's only given them 2 quality starts in his 7 appearances. After allowing 1 run in 6 innings against the Blue Jays, his ERA dipped to a still high 7.96. The Wanger will be coming off his fabulous start on Sunday, when he threw 7 1-3 perfect innings against the Mariners.
