May Day, May Day

Yankees vs. Rangers Preview

A 3 game series featuring two of the worst staffs in baseball. Hopefully the Yankees rotation starts pitching the way it can (unless that's what they're already doing).

The Rangers are 10-15, having lost 5 of their last 7. They were dominated by the Blue Jay's Roy Halladay last night as the teams split a 4 game series.

Today - Phil Hughes (0-1, 8.31) vs. Kameron Loe (1-1, 5.21)

Wednesday - Andy Pettitte (1-1, 3.00) vs. Robinson Tejeda (3-1, 3.82)

Thursday - Mike Mussina (0-0, 0.00) vs. Kevin Millwood (2-3, 5.88)

Kameron Loe vs. Yankees

1-3, 7.62 with 2 starts and 2 relief appearances.

No Yankees hitter has more than 8 at-bats against Loe, but most have been successful. They're a combined 14-40 (.350) with 2 HR, 9 RBI, and 5 walks.

Robinson Tejeda vs. Yankees

0-1, 18.00; was hammered in one start against the Bombers

Limited exposure to Yankees hitters, but Hideki Matsui is 2-2 with a 3-run HR

Kevin Millwood vs. Yankees

1-4, 4.82 in 6 careers starts; has struggled with his control this season, walking 15 in 33 2-3 IP.

Millwood may be the answer for Bobby Abreu's slump. Abreu has faced the right-hander more than any other Yankee, with 14 hits in 39 ABs (.359). Abreu has a HR, 4 RBI, 4 doubles, and 9 walks, and 1.018 OPS.

Jason Giambi (.455-2-3), A-Rod (.429-1-2), Melky (4-9), and Robinson Cano (4-10, 1 RBI) all have had success. On the other hand, Jorge Posada (1-10), Doug Mientkiewicz (1-5), and Hideki Matsui (1-6) have not.
