Yankees vs Phillies Game Log (3/1)

Yankees got off to a great start in the top of the 1st against Phillies starter Adam Eaton. After Brett Gardner reached safely, Derek Jeter bounced into a double play. But Bobby Abreu and Alex Rodriguez followed with singles and Shelley Duncan blasted a 3-run home run.

3-0 Yankees after 1/2 inning.

Bottom 1

Chien-Ming Wang
with an easy 1-2-3 inning, including a pair of ground outs.

Top 2
Jose Molina
and Greg Porter retired on ground outs for the first 2 outs. Chris Woodward singled, but Gardner called out on strikes to retire the side.

3-0 Yankees after 1 1/2 inning.

Bottom 2


Ryan Howard with a lead off double, but Wang retires the next 3, stranding Howard on 3rd.

3-0 Yankees after 2

Top 3

Shelley Duncan
is making a statement. With Jeter and Abreu aboard, Duncan hit one off the top of the wall for a 2-run double.

5-0 Yankees after 2 1/2.

Bottom 3

Darrell Rasner
in for the Yankees. Great job by The Wanger.

Rasner with a shaky inning, pitching behind in the count. Gives up a run on 2 hits and a walk. Chase Utley, our pre-2007 season pick for NL MVP, had the RBI double.

Top 4

Durbin
breezes through Porter, Woodward, and Gardner.

Yankees 5-1 after 3 1/2.

Bottom 4

Billy Traber
on to pitch. He was awful in Wednesday's intrasquad game.
