Yankees-Twins Updates (3/5)

Ian Kennedy pitched a solid 2 innings, allowing 1 run and has given way to Heath Phillips in the 3rd.

The Yankees scored a 3 runs in the 2nd on back-to-back doubles by Robinson Cano and Wilson Betemit, and singles by Johnny Damon and Bobby Abreu.

Carlos Gomez, the former Met, is playing centerfield and has quickly shown that he is no Torii Hunter.

Yankees 3-1 after 2.

Phillips
had a nice 1-2-3 inning and the Yankees tacked on another run in the bottom of the 3rd on singles by Jason Giambi and Robinson Cano.

Yankees 4-1 after 3.

Joba Chamberlain
was not at his best today in his 2 innings of worked. He walked a batter in the 4th and ran into bigger trouble in the 5th, allowing a 2-run HR to Garrett Jones. He the hit the next batter before getting out of the inning.

The Yankees were blanked for 2 innings, one of them by former Yankee, Randy Keisler.

Jon Albaladejo
had an up and down outing. He did all right in the 6th, with some help from Melky Cabrera who threw out a runner at 3rd by 20 feet. Albaladejo surrendered the tying run in the 7th and left with the tying run in scoring position. But after throwing a wild pitch, Edwar Ramirez got the final out.

Yankees 4 Twins 4 after 6 1/2

It was a bad top of the 8th for Edwar Ramirez, who got knocked around for 3 runs. It might have been worse if not for a diving, sliding catch by Colin Curtis in left field. Chris Britton finished the inning, getting the final 2 outs. The Yankees went in order in the bottom of the inning.

Twins 7 Yankees 4 after 8

and Ross Ohlendorf combined for an easy 9th with Ohlendorf coming on to strike out the final 2 batters. The Yankees got a shot at tying things up in the bottom of the 9th when Shelley Duncan blasted a 2-out solo home run and Chris Woodward singled. But Jason Lane took a called 3rd strike on a 3-2 pitch, and the Yankees had their 1st loss of the spring.
