Former Yankees major and minor league manager and coach Stump Merrill got an unwelcome visitor this morning at Yankees camp. The assistant to Brian Cashman took a baseball right in the mouth during warmups and was taken off the field on a stretcher.
The 64-yr old was collecting baseballs near the 2nd Base screen when he was struck. He was taken off the field on a stretcher, but was conscious and alert.
Hang in there Stump!
