Quick Hits

Great August baseball story last night in St. Louis. Rick Ankiel, whose career as a major league pitcher ended in a base on balls humiliation nightmare, returned to the majors last night as an outfielder. After a pop-up and a couple of K's, Ankiel brought the home crowd and Tony LaRussa to their feet with a 3-run homer.

The Cubs put in a waiver claim on the White Sox Scott Podsednik and could be trying to work out a deal with their cross-town rivals. Source

After losing to the Cards on Wednesday, the Padres' Greg Maddux is winless in his last 8 starts, or since he won career victory #340.

Chipper Jones hit a monster 470 ft. home run off the Shea Stadium scoreboard in yesterday's win over the Mets. Jones then refused to speak to the media, blaming them for taking his comments on Alex Rodriguez out of context. Willie Harris robbed Carlos Delgado of a 9th inning, gamy tying home run with a sensational leaping grab in the 9th.
