Yanks Would Include Hughes

Despite protests from the front office and Yankees fans, the powers that be have reportedly decided to included Phil Hughes as part of a package for Johan Santana. Brian Cashman was hoping to send Ian Kennedy, Melky Cabrera, and a prospect, but someone close to the Twins said that the team is looking for major league ready players. Rumors out of Boston apparently pushed the Yankees to include Hughes.

The Red Sox were reportedly offering Coco Crisp, John Lester, and a pair of prospects - an offer that supposedly put the Sox ahead in the negotiations. However, the proposal was again not thought to be enough by Twins officials, who were hoping to get Jacoby Ellsbury and/or Clay Bucholz.

We don't think either deal, Hughes included, is enough for a pitcher of Santana's caliber. We still wouldn't be surprised if Santana was a Twin on opening day. Source
