Walk off Wins

These are the walk offs we've been at (that we can remember)

Sept 26, 1981 - Bobby Murcer pinch-hit 3-run home run against Orioles Tim Stoddard. 6-4 Yankees win.

July 3, 1999 - Scott Brosius hits a 3-run home run off of Orioles pal Arthur Rhodes for a 6-5 win.

July 16, 2000 - Yankees come back from 6-1 against the Phillies with 5 runs in the 9th, and then 8-6 in the 10th. RBI singles by O'Neill, Bernie, and Justice win it 9-8.

July 21, 2002 - Red Sox closer Uggie "Machete" Urbina walks Jorge Posada with the bases loaded to cap a two run rally and gives the Yankees a 9-8 win.

July 31, 2005 - Yankees score 4 in the 8th to erase a 6-2 deficit to the Angels, then a run in the 10th to tie things back up at 7-7. Matsui leads off the 11th with a triple and scores on Tony Womack's single for a 8-7 win.

Brosius Lead Linfield Comes up Short

Scott Brosius' 1st year as head coach of Linfield College didn't end with a dramatic 9th inning home run ala Brosius, but with a 1-2 finish in the NCAA Division III College World Series.

Linfield won their opening round game this past Friday, 5-1 over U. of Wisconsin-Whitewater, but things went downhill from there.

The Wildcats lost a pair of one run games to Trinity (Conn.) College and Adrian College of Michigan on Saturday and Sunday. Trinity will face Johns Hopkins in the finals.

Linfield, which won the Northwest Conference and the Central Region, finished at 35-13.

If they all had Brosius' Heart

Scott Brosius quickly became a fan favorite during his time here with the Yankees from 1998-2001. It was only a 4-year period, but Brosius left a lasting impression. A stellar defender, a clutch bat, and a player, who though he may not have had the biggest skills, always played with a lot of heart. He won the World Series MVP in 1998 and of course, hit the 2nd game tying home run against the Diamondbacks in 2001's Game 5.

Brosius is now in his first year as head coach of his alma mater, Linfield College in McMinniville, Oregon. Brosius worked various jobs for the baseball team, including heading up its recruiting efforts. After working as a full-time assistant, he got the bump to head coach when Scott Carnahan decided to step down after 24 years. Carnahan is staying on as an assistant for his former player.

We happened to stumble on an interview Brosius did last October with the blog, "All on the Field" . It's a good read.
