Blyleven Finds An Upstate NY Home At Last

Bert Blyleven has been vocal in his unhappiness over the perceived snub by Baseball Writers Assocation of America (BBWAA) voters during its annual Hall of Fame voting. He won't have to worry any more. Blyleven received 79.7% of the vote to join Roberto Alomar in this summer's induction.

Blyleven's credentials over 22 seasons include 287 career wins, a 3.31 career ERA, 3701 strikeouts (topping 200 in a season eight times), and walked just 2.4 batters per nine innings. He was a two time All-Star and won 10 or more games in 17 seasons. He finished in the top five in Cy Young voting three times.

Blyleven also won two World Series ring as a member of the 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates and the 1987 Minnesota Twins. He compiled a 5-1, 2.47 mark in eight post-season appearance, including one victory in each World Series.

Some voters felt Blyleven was a stat compiler and were turned off by his remarks about being snubbed.

Alomar Rides Tidal Wave Into Hall

Roberto Alomar was heart broken last January when, despite first ballot Hall of Fame credentials, he fell short of the required 75% vote tally for entrance. One year later Alomar can rejoice after being elected to the Hall with a 90% total of the vote.

Perhaps some Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA) voters held his infamous spitting incident with umpire John Hirschbeck against him in 2010. Today they made things right.

Alomar posted a .300 career average over 17 seasons with a career .814 OPS. He topped 500 doubles, 200 home runs, 1000 RBI (1,134), and stole 474 bases. Topping his offensive production was his highlight reel defense at 2nd base. It helped him earn 10 Gold Glove awards, including a streak of six straight seasons in which he took home the award. His play included seven season in which he made less than 10 errors.

Alomar was a 12 time All-Star and won the 1992 ALCS MVP award en route to back to back World Series titles as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays. His career also included a lifetime .311 post-season batting average with Toronto, Baltimore, and Cleveland.

Dawson Lone Electee to Hall

In a stunning surprise, Andre Dawson is the only former baseball player elected to the Hall of Fame in this year's balloting. Dawson was the only player to reached the required 75% total with 77.9%.

Bert Blyleven, despite 287 wins, missed by just .8%. Roberto Alomar, in his first year of eligibility, inexplicably fell short with 73.7%.

To make matters worse, five ballots from the Baseball Writers Association of America (BWAA) were returned completely blank.

Congrats to "The Hawk", but bad job by the BWAA.

Anthony DiComo of mlb.com reports that among those in attendance on July 15 will be Hank Aaron, Yogi Berra, Bob Feller, Whitey Ford, Reggie Jackson, Cal Ripken Jr. and Frank Robinson. The afternoon of the game will feature a "Red Carpet Parade" along 6th Ave. in Manhattan. Fans in attendance will receive gifts from the Major League mascot thats will line the parade route.
