Yankees Want Southpaw from the North Side

ESPN's Jayson Stark is reporting the Yankees, as well as the Red Sox, are among the teams going after Cubs left-handed reliever Scott Eyre. With Damaso Marte expected to have a prominent role, Brian Cashman would want another left-hander to serve as a specialist.

Yankees Battle for Teenager

Jayson Stark of ESPN is reporting that the Yankees are very much into trying to sign 16-yr old pitching phenom Michael Inoa. A scouting director said the Yankees and Mariners have prepared $3-$4 million proposals for the teenager. Bidding cannot begin until July 2.

Inoa is 6'7", 200 pounds with a 91-94 mph fastball that he mixes with off-speed stuff and a splitter.

The Pettitte Recap

Unless something major develops, we're going to try not to focus too much on the P.E.D. issue for the rest of spring training. But here's some more on yesterday's happenings.

Peter Abraham has a copy of Andy Pettitte's opening statement as well as audio of the press conference.

Jayson Stark wrote a very good piece for ESPN.com which really reflects how we feel about Pettitte and the whole situation.

Brian McNamee's attorneys aren't going to let Pettitte put this behind him just yet. Pettitte will most certainly be a key witness in any lawsuit McNamee may file against Clemens.

Right now, Pettitte's like your kid- you want to shake him for what he did, but ya still love him.

What to Do, What to Do?

ESPN's Jayson Stark is reporting tonight that the Twins are willing to go into spring training with Johan Santana still a member of the team. The Twins are still not happy with the players being offered, so they figure they have nothing to lose by waiting.

The thing that could change all that of course is if Santana and his agent press the issue by forcing the Twins' hand.

Yankees May end Santana Talks

ESPN's Jayson Stark is reporting that the Yankees are close to ending negotiations with the Twins for Johan Santana. The Twins are still insisting on Ian Kennedy being part of the deal. And the Yankees are holding their ground to not adding him. Source

In the meantime, here's some "Evil Ways" from Carlos Santana (with a bonus political shot in the intro).
