Christian Garcia Activated

Good news for another Yankees pitching prospect. We received a press release from the Trenton Thunder that Christian Garcia has been activated from the DL and will pitch for the first time in the regular season this evening.

(Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that RHP Christian Garcia has been activated from the Disabled List and will start for the Thunder on Wednesday night against the Akron Aeros (Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians).

Garcia has not yet appeared in a game this season. In 2008, Garcia started the season with Tampa and made 10 starts. He had a 4-2 record and a 2.90 ERA. The Miami, Florida native was called up to Trenton and made one regular season appearance for the Thunder. He tossed 5 1/3 innings, and gave up four hits and two earned runs on September 1st against Connecticut. He made one post-season start for the Thunder, and allowed six hits and four runs in four innings. He received a no-decision at Akron (9/10) in the second game of the Eastern League Championship Series. He also appearaed in three games for the GCL Yankees, and was 0-2 with a 14.73 ERA.

Garcia missed the entire 2007 season after recovering from Tommy John Surgery. He was selected in the 3rd round of the 2004 draft out of Gulliver Prep HS in Miami, Florida.

Trenton continues a three-game series against the Akron Aeros (Double-A Affiliate of the Cleveland Indians) tonight at Waterfront Park. Garcia (0-0, 0.00) will start for the Thunder against Akron RHP Hector Rondon (5-1, 1.95). Game time is set for 7:05 pm. Yankees Make More Cuts

Ian Kennedy didn't have the best spring, but he did end his time in major league camp on a good note Sunday, allowing an unearned run in three innings. Kennedy was reassigned to Scranton today as the Yankees cut down the number of players in the big league camp.

Pitcher Christian Garcia, on the road back from Tommy John surgery, was reassigned to Trenton. Infielder Kevin Russo, pitcher Mark Melancon, and catchers Jesus Montero and Austin Romine were sent to the minor league camp.

Aeros Even up the Thunder

Former Yankees prospect Bronson Sardinha gave his old organization some pay back last night as he enjoyed a 4-hit, 4 RBI in Akron's 13-10 win over the Trenton Thunder. The victory tied the Eastern League series at a game apiece.

Sardinha's four hits included a home run as the Aeros built a 13-6 lead. The Thunder rallied with four runs in the ninth, but fell short. Christian Garcia was put on the hot seat, making his first post season start, and he failed miserably. Garcia, who missed a good chunk of the last two seasons, left after four innings and 6-1 deficit.

The Thunder rallied to tie the game at 6-6, but the bullpen imploded in the eighth inning when the Aeros put seven runs on the board. Kevin Whelan was tagged with the loss after allowing four runs in just one-third of an inning.

Austin Jackson, Reegie Corona, and Colin Curtis led the Thunder with two RBI each.

There has been trade rumors lately surrounding Jarrod Washburn of the Seattle Mariners. Buster Olney of ESPN believes the Yankees could use Kei Igawa as part of a deal. Igawa helped the cause last night, by allowing 3 runs on 4 hits over 7 innings in Scranton's 6-4 win over the Richmond Braves. He's now 9-5, 3.80 overall.

Ben Broussard hit a pair of home runs and drove in 3, and Cody Ransom smacked his 17th home run of the season.

The Trenton Thunder won their 6th straight, 9-8 over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, after blowing a 5-0 lead. Anthony Claggett gave up his first run in over a month, but picked up his 2nd victory of the season. The Thunder had 14 hits with four different players driving in 2 runs each.
