We Apologize

For last year's questioning of why Chris Britton wasn't given a chance to pitch. We admit our mistake. If he never puts the Pinstripes on ever again, it will be too soon. (that wasn't really good English, but we're pissed).

This is Chris Britton

Dick Stockton and Eric Karros just both identified him as Joba Chamberlain...twice. Good job Fox.

Tonight's Lineup (4/29)

Inexplicably, the Yankees have sent Chris Britton back to Scranton without throwing a pitch, and have recalled Edwar Ramirez. We love K-Ram and he's done great for Scranton this year, but what does Britton have to do to get a chance to pitch? Ross Ohlendorf keeps getting run out there and he's awful. He's gives up runs in every appearance.

Here's tonight's Yankees lineup, via PeteAbe:

Damon CF
Jeter SS
Abreu RF
Matsui LF
Giambi DH
Duncan 1B
Ensberg 3B
Cano 2B
Stewart C

Help on the Way

According to WFAN, Jonathan Albaladejo and Chris Britton have been called up from Scranton. Brian Bruney has been placed on the 15-day DL with a foot injury that could require surgery. With Jorge Posada ready to resume normal catching duties, Chad Moeller, who has no options, was designated for assignment.

Peter Abraham is also reporting that Shelley Duncan will most likely be rejoining the ball club. To make room, one of the 13 pitchers will be sent down, most likely Ross Ohlendorf, or Kyle Farnsworth could be DL'ed if his elbow is a bigger problem than first thought.

Bruney, according to SI, has been advised to have season ending surgery after damaging the Lisfranc ligament in his right foot. It's injury more common to the NFL. Michael Strahan suffered a serious one for the Giants 2 seasons ago.

Here are tonights lineups from MLB.com. A-Rod back in at 3rd Base.

Yankees
Damon, LF
Jeter, SS
Abreu, RF
Rodriguez, 3B
Matsui, DH
Posada, C
Giambi, 1B
Cano, 2B
Cabrera, CF

Indians
Sizemore, CF
Carroll, 2B
Hafner, DH
Martinez, 1B
Peralta, SS
Gutierrez, RF
Blake, 3B
Michaels, LF
Shoppach, C

Minor League Recap - 4/5

Scranton got great pitching for the 2nd straight night, beating the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs, 2-1. Starter Steven White allowed 1 run on 3 hits over 6 innings and Chris Britton picked up the win as the Yankees scored the game winner on a wild pitch in the 8th. Jose Veras picked up the save with a scoreless 9th.

The Trenton Thunder were postponed due to inclement weather and will play a doubleheader with the Binghamton Mets today.

The Tampa Yankees won their first game by rallying for 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th to defeat the Lakeland Flying Tigers, 5-4. Mitch Hilligoss singled for the winner. Mark Melancon left off of Thurday's lineup card, made his season debut a successful one by tossing 1.2 scoreless innings.

The Charleston River Dogs were also rained out and will play two with the Rome Braves today.

Prospect of the Night (5/18)

The Yankees made a huge mistake when they signed Jaret Wright to a free agent contract prior to the 2005 season. Between injuries and poor performance, Wright was a bust, second only to Carl Pavano. The Yankees tried to make up for that this past off-season by sending Wright to the Orioles for rookie reliever Chris Britton.

Britton struggled in Spring Training, but has emerged as one of the International League's top relievers. With 2 scoreless innings this afternoon against Norfolk, Britton's ERA is at a staggeringly low 0.57.

Britton has walked more batters (7 in 15.2 innings) than he would have liked to, but has also recorded 18 strikeouts. At 6'3", 280 pounds, Britton looks more like a tackle than a pitcher, but there's no question that he should get a chance with the Yankees shortly. Whether or not Brian Cashman is wise enough to make that move remains to be seen (especially getting rid of Luis Vizcaino).

Britton appeared in 52 games for the Orioles last season, limiting AL hitters to a .228 average. At just 24 years of age, he could have major impact on the Yankees (not just at the post game spread) for years to come.
